Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Robert W. Schaefer, 65, a resident of Marshfield, Mass., and a summer resident of Bennington, died suddenly Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. Schaefer were winter residents of Port Orange, Fla.

Born in Dedham, Mass., June 10, 1940, he was the son of the late Edward and Marion (Moreshead) Schaefer. He received his education in the Dedham schools and was a graduate of Norfolk County Agricultural School in Walpole. Mr. Schaefer married the former Rita Allard Carbonaro on Sept. 7, 1971. For 35 years, he was employed as a field technician by the U.S. Department of Agriculture until his retirement in 1995.

In his early years, Bob served in the Massachusetts National Guard. He was an avid fan of NASCAR racing.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Schaefer of Marshfield; three stepchildren, Dianne Coltey of Poultney, Steven Carbonaro of Shaftsbury and Cynthia Desautels of Pownal; 12 step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward R. Schaefer of Franklin, Mass.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Schaefer was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Patricia Gosselin, and a brother, David S. Schaefer, both of whom died in 1997.

Memorial services celebrating the life of Robert W. Schaefer will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, March 4, 2006, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robin Greene officiating.
