Roberta "Bobbi" Housman 1935 - 2011 SUNDERLAND, VT Roberta Yanover "Bobbi" Housman, 76, a resident of McKee Road in Sunderland, passed away May 6, 2011 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. Bobbi was born in Flushing, New York on October 17, 1935, daughter of the late Dr. Robert and Marion (Twillinger) Yanover. Bobbi received her early education in Great Neck, New York, Public Schools. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (RN) from Adelphi University and has an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the College of the Ozarks for Service to Individuals With Handicapping Conditions. Bobbi's employment career includes Charge Nurse at Rockville Medical Center in Rockville Center, New York, University Nurse at the Millikin University in Decator Illinois, Nurse Administrator for the founding group at the Henry Viscardi School for Severely Disabled Children in Albertson, New York, Director of Programs for the Employment of the Handicapped and Research Programs at the Human Resources Center, Abilities, Inc. in Albertson, New York, Vice President of Operations of Aging in America Senior Center/Morningside House in the Bronx, New York, and Vice President of the Human Resources Center Abilities, Inc. in Albertson, New York. Bobbi received numerous National Awards for her work in the rehabilitation and employment of the handicapped. She made several appearances at the Congress of the United States to advocate for the People With Disabilities Act and held nationally elected offices including President of the Job Placement Division of the National Rehabilitation Association. Bobbi was the originator of and considered the "Mother" of PWI- Projects with Industry, now a National Program joining Business and Labor and Industry to council for the employment of the handicapped. Bobbi, in retirement, was an avid bass fisher and fly fisher. She enjoyed cross country skiing, gardening and loved to travel. She served on the Board of the Martha Canfield Library in Arlington, Vt., and was president for several terms. She was active in the Vermont Reading Partners and was quite involved with neighborhood activities. A contributing life well lived. Bobbi is survived by her husband, Dr. Russell F. Housman of Sunderland, her son, Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Housman, and grandchildren, John Patrick Housman and Grace Lawler Housman, all of Washington, D.C., her sister and brother-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Richard Weiss and nephews, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Weiss, and David Weiss, all of Long Island, New York.
