SALEM, N.Y. -- Rodney E. Therrien, 57, of Salem, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany following a brief illness. Mr. Therrien was born March 12, 1950, in Hardwick, Vt., the son of David and Margaret Massey Therrien of Salem. Rodney graduated from Rutland High School and worked for various auto body shops in the area for many years and had own and operated Black Creek Auto in Salem for five years. He loved classic cars, playing the guitar and was an Elvis impersonator, performing at local nursing homes and also many benefits. Rodney had the talent of carving wood in which he made several staffs.

In addition to his parents, he is also survived by his wife, Florence Young Matteson Therrien, whom he married Oct. 19, 1996; one daughter, Angel Gardner of Roanoke, Va.; two step-sons, James Matteson of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Leslie Matteson of Salem and two step-daughters, Barbara Matteson of Rutland, Vt., and Marion Murphy of Glens Falls. He is also survived by two brothers, Raymond Therrien of North Bennington, Vt., and David Therrien of Bennington, Vt., and a sister, Joanne Keener of Castleton, Vt.; as well as two grandchildren, Michael Gardner and Kimberly Gardner, both of Roanoke, Va; an uncle, Robert Meehan of Oneida, N.Y. and a cousin, Debbie Meehan of Oneida, N.Y. He was pre-deceased by an aunt, Ernestine Meehan, in 2007.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 24, 2007 at 12 p.m. at the McClellan Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem with Rev. Debbie Earthrowl officiating. Interment will take place on Monday at 12 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery in Salem. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call at the funeral home on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.
