Roger J. Bolster

1932 - 2014 SPRINGFIELD Roger J. Bolster, 81, passed away on Tuesday evening June 3, 2014, at Cedar Hill Health Care Center in Windsor, Vt. He was born Aug. 31, 1932, in East Dorset, Vt., the son of Roscoe J. and Effie E. Bush Bolster. He attended Manchester schools and graduated from Burr & Burton Academy. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, serving on the USS Argentina stationed in Newfoundland. In July 1957, he married Arlene Jane Hess in Arlington, Vt. She predeceased him in 1981. He was employed for many years as Sales Engineer with the Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield, Vermont. After his retirement from Fellows, he worked with the Army Corps of Engineers for a few years. He enjoyed hunting, listening to Johnny Cash, and family reunions. He was a talented trumpet player and played taps at the Dellwood Cemetery many times as a young man. He also served as a golf caddy at the Manchester Golf Course as a young man. He was a member of the HitorMis Club in Springfield and a member of the American Legion in Hudson, N.H. He is survived by two daughters, Angela Leary of Manchester, N.H. and Sarah Rushton of North Springfield, Vt.; one sister, Edith Sargood of Arlington, Vt.; one granddaughter; longtime companion, Brenda Richardson and her son Jack Edmands, of North Springfield, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, one brother, Fred Bolster and one sister, Joyce Claflin. FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Saturday 2 p.m. at the Dellwood Cemetery in Manchester, Vermont.
