Roger N. Hanson Obituary
Arlington - Roger N. Hanson, 93 a resident of Carbonti Circle passed away peacefully on Saturday December 17, 2016 at Brookdale - Fillmore Pond in Bennington.

The eldest son of Roger L. and Ella B. (Wilbur) Hanson, he was born in Boston on September 25, 1923. He was raised in Orange, MA where he graduated from Orange High School in 1941. He worked at Westinghouse Electric in East Springfield, MA until February 1943. He then joined the U.S. Merchant Marines enlisting at Fort Trumbull (CT), where he received training service to secure his Third Mate License. He made nine Atlantic voyages prior to his discharge on November 13, 1945. He was married to the former Margery Lincoln in Warwick, MA on April 22, 1945. She passed away on April 11, 2011, just 11 days short of their 66th wedding anniversary.

Roger worked at Chase Turbine Company in Orange, MA until 1965 when he moved his family to Arlington, where he and Margery began their teaching careers. Roger taught Industrial Arts at Arlington Memorial High School for 20 years. They retired in 1985 and enjoyed many years of leisure and travel together.

Roger was an accomplished self-taught woodworker and cabinet maker who designed and built houses and many unique woodcrafts for family and friends. He also enjoyed working in his gardens, as well as hunting and fishing. Roger served on the Arlington Cemetery Commission for many years and was a member of the American Legion Post 69 in Arlington.

A respected father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather, father-in-law, teacher, mentor, serviceman, and person, he leaves his son Roger F. Hanson and wife Peggy of Arlington, daughters Marcia Shaw of Goshen, MA, Linda Flower and husband Jack of Indian Lake, NY, Karen Hanson of Fresno, CA and Diane Lecesse and husband Jimmy of Wareham, MA, sister Nancy Marsello of Orange, MA, 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers Forrest "Todd" Hanson and Everett "Mickey" Hanson.

Roger's love of teaching, lead to his final wish to be a donor in the Anatomical Gift Program at the University of Vermont College of Medicine.

SERVICES: The family will receive friends at the Arlington Chapel of the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home on Sunday January 15 from 1-3pm, followed by a memorial service at 3pm.
