Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for Roger S. Cole were held from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, where the Mass of Resurrection was offered by Rev. James Doherty, c.s.c., pastor. Assisting in the liturgy was Deacon David O’Brien of St. John the Baptist. Acolyte was Merton Snow.

Organist was Louise Gauthier and soloist was Mildred Pierce. Hymns offered were “Be Not Afraid,” “Here I Am Lord,” “Ave Maria” and “On Eagles Wings.”

The casket pall was placed by Mr. Cole’s daughters, Mary Young and Steffanie Andrus. A crucifix was laid upon the casket by his wife, Alda Cole, and the scriptural readings were offered by Matthew Young, a grandson. The offertory gifts were presented by Matthew Young and three granddaughters, Nicole Young, Sarah and Erica Andrus.

Bearers were a grandson, Matthew Young; two sons-in-law, Mark Young and Bruce Andrus; a brother-in-law, Larry Pellerin and a family friend, Brian Tarbell.

Burial took place in the family lot in St. John’s Cemetery, North Bennington, with Father Doherty offering the committal prayers. Military honors were accorded the World War II Army Air Corps veteran by Ralph Brown and Joseph Krawczyk of American Legion Post 13 who folded the American flag and presented it to Mrs. Cole. Taps were sounded by Woody Strobridge.

Mr. Cole, a former resident of North Branch Street and more recently of Fillmore Pond, died November 28, 2007 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation.

Funeral arrangements were under the dircetion of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
