Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Roger S. Cole, 81, a former resident of North Branch Street and more recently of Fillmore Pond, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation following a long illness.

Born in North Bennington May 18, 1926, he was the son of the late Walter A. and Mildred C. (Squires) Cole Sr. He received his education in the North Bennington schools and was a 1944 graduate of the former North Bennington High School. Roger was a World War II Army Air Force veteran.

He married the former Alda Pellerin at Sacred Heart Church in Bennington on Oct. 15, 1955.

Roger was employed at the Bijur Lubricating Company for 32 years prior to his retirement in 1988.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He also was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 307 in Bennington.

Roger especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren who will miss him dearly. An avid outdoorsman, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing in earlier years.

Survivors include his wife, Alda P. Cole of Bennington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary C. and Mark Young of Shaftsbury and Stephanie A. and Bruce Andrus of Norwich; four grandchildren, Matthew and Nicole Young and Sarah and Erica Andrus; a sister, Elizabeth Vetro of North Adams, Mass.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Cole was pre-deceased by a brother, Walter A. Cole Jr., who died on September 12, 1999.

The funeral will be held from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington on Dec. 29, 2007, at 9 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered.

There will be no calling hours at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

Burial will take place in the family lot in St. Johns Cemetery, North Bennington.
