BENNINGTON -- Mr. Roger W. “Sam” Crandall, 59, a resident of Bennington, died unexpectedly Monday, March 10, 2003 at St. Petersburgh Bay Front Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla. after being struck by a pickup truck.

Born in Bennington, on Feb. 28, 1944, he was the son of the late Clarence Crandall and the former Nina (Bourn) Maxham who survives. Sam was raised by the late Clarence and Lottie Crandall. He received his education in the Jamaica and Bennington schools.

In earlier years Sam was employed at the Vermont Steak House in Bennington. Mr. Crandall enjoyed talking on his C. B. radio, go cart racing, stock car racing, he had raced cars in Fair Haven, bowling, wrestling, camping, hunting, fishing, videotaping, and taping his own music. He also enjoyed bluegrass music and playing his guitar. Sam was also an ordained minister. His home and family were his main interests.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Crandall of Bennington, Charlene Crandall of Hoosick Falls, N.Y. and Sue Dufour of Whitehall, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; his mother Nina Maxham of Poultney; four sisters Jennie Noyes of Manchester, Clair Senecal of White Creek, N.Y., Sharon Raymond of Saint Albans and Ethel Edith Shepard of Burlington; three brothers, Everett Maxham of Bennington, Burt Maxham of Bennington and Clifford Maxham of Rupert; several nieces, nephews and cousins

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday, March 17 at 7 p.m.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home Monday from 6 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place in the spring in the family lot in Pleasant View Cemetery, Jamaica.
