Romain Letourneau 1917 - 2009 BENNINGTON Romain J. Letourneau, 92, of Knoll Crest Lane died Thursday, May 21, 2009, at the Crescent Manor Care Center. Born in Burlington on May 14, 1917, son of Pierre and Alma Godbout Letourneau, Romain received his education in Burlington and was a graduate of Edmonds High School. In earlier years, Romain had been employed at Beneficial Finance, the Vermont National Bank, Heald Plastics and the Vermont State Liquor Store. Romain was a 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus Council 307, a life member of the Bennington Lodge of Elks and a member of the Bennington Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, was an avid golfer and had recorded 3 holes in one. His wife, the former Virginia "Bobby" Echo, whom he married July 31, 1939, died May 23, 1989. He leaves a son, Pierre J. Letourneau of Daytona Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Dawn E. Black and her husband, Jerry, of Bennington; four grandchildren, Kelly, Michelle, Jennifer and Wanda; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Armand Letourneau of Mission Viejo, Calif., Paul Letourneau of Essex Junction, and Robert Letourneau of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sisters, Yvonne White of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Lorraine Durocher of Essex Junction, several nieces, nephews and cousins, and his second family, Dennis Delaney of Dublin, Ohio, Patty Lewis Honeoye Falls, N.Y., and Sue Bauer of Plymouth, Mass. He was predeceased by a dear friend, Eleanor A. Delaney; by two brothers, Gerard Letourneau and Joseph Letourneau, and by two sisters, Blanche LaValley and Adrienne Pillsbury. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church on Friday, May 29, 2009, at 11 a.m where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered. The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. If friends desire, contributions in memory of Romain J. Letourneau may be made to the Bennington Lions Club through the office of the MAHAR and SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
