BENNINGTON -- Ronald E. Bushee, 70, a lifelong resident of Bennington, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

He was born in Everett, Pa., on Jan. 9, 1935, the son of Paul and Gladys (Sparks) Bushee. He received his education in Bennington schools and graduated from Bennington High School at the top of his class in 1953.

Mr. Bushee worked at the Benmont Corp. as a secretary for many years and was also employed at Eagle Square and Jard. He painted houses as a side job throughout his career. Mr. Bushee loved sports. He was an outstanding baseball player for Bennington High School, and later for the American Legion Post 13 baseball team, for which he was a talented pitcher. He also played football and basketball while attending Bennington High. He enjoyed playing softball, cross-country skiing and loved hunting and fishing and taking walks.

He is survived by his mother, Gladys Bushee of Bennington; his brother, Robert Bushee of Pownal; three sisters, Sylvia Blake of Bennington, Roxie Andrew of North Bennington and Bonita Gabrus of Shaftsbury; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Bushee, who died Nov. 13, 1994, and his brother, Jerry Bushee, who died Aug. 28, 1998.

Funeral services for Mr. Bushee will be held Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St., with the Rev. Norma Drosky, former pastor of the First Baptist Church of Bennington, officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery in North Bennington. The family will receive friends on Friday Dec. 16, 2005, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
