Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- A prayer service for Rose E. Hewson was held on Friday morning at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian death and burial at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington.

The mass was celebrated by the Rev. Edward Howard, pastor, and the Rev. Michael DeMasi. Assisting at the Mass was Mr. Ivon Matte. The hymns selected for the Mass were “Amazing Grace,” “On Eagles’ Wings,” “I’ll Walk With God,” “Ave Maria” and “How Great Thou Art.” The soloists for the mass were Mrs. Mildred Pierce and Randall Frost, who were accompanied by Mrs. Louise Gauthier on the organ. A wooden cross was placed on the casket by Mary Goldman. The Old and New Testament readings were offered by Leslie Goldman and Patricia Slinsen. The offertory gifts were presented by Rita Gauthier and Helen Daley.

Following the Mass, the interment took place in Park Lawn Cemetery, with Father Howard and Father DeMasi offering the committal prayers. A reception followed at Saint John’s Parish Center. Pallbearers for the service were Norman Goldman, Mark Goldman, Thomas Thompson, Edward Brandi, Rosary Tetreault and James Pleasant. An honor guard representing the Saint John the Baptist Sodality included Betty Becker, Jill Levin, Lorna Cole, Mae Fox, Eileen Flynn, Theresa Demasi, Therese Densmore, Joyce Scarey, Mary Harrington, Madeline Gratton and Mae Fox.

The vigil service took place Thursday evening at the funeral home, with Father Demasi offering the prayers. A prayer service was also offered by the Rev. Bailey.

Miss Rose E. Hewson, 57, a resident of Torrey Knoll, Manchester, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, in Albany, N.Y. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
