ARLINGTON -- Mrs. Rose Flora Hoyt, 95, a longtime resident of Arlington, died on Sunday morning, Feb. 29, 2004 at the Crescent Manor Care Centers in Bennington where she had made her home for the past several years.

Mrs. Hoyt was born in Sunderland on Jan. 25, 1909, the daughter of Thomas and Ellen (Brockway) Willis. Her marriage to Cyril Hoyt Sr. took place on May 23, 1925 in West Arlington. Mr. Hoyt died on Feb. 4, 1994.

In her earlier years, Mrs. Hoyt had been employed at the Rockwell Gallery in Arlington and as a housekeeper for R.K. Miles Sr. and R.K. Miles Jr. She was a member of St. James Church in Arlington. Mrs. Hoyt was especially proud of the fact that she had served as a model for several Norman Rockwell paintings including the “Four Freedoms,” “Golden Rule,” “Ration Board” and several magazine articles. As a model, she had been interviewed by several television stations, newspapers, Bennington Museum and school groups. Mrs. Hoyt had also served as a volunteer in the kindergarten class in the Arlington schools. She particularly enjoyed her family, sewing and crocheting.

Mrs. Hoyt is survived by her children and their spouses, Cyril Jr. and Barbara Hoyt of Arlington, Theodore and Margaret Hoyt of Bennington, James and Jacqueline Hoyt of Bennington and Naples, Fla., Duane and Corinne Hoyt of Crystal River, Fla., Ralph and Verna Hoyt of Rupert, Thomas and Joan Hoyt of North Bennington, Frederick and Sheila Hoyt of Arlington, Gene and Anna Hoyt of Arlington, Irene Burke of Shaftsbury and Ann and Joseph Benini of Hollis, Maine; three sisters Nellie Burke, Elizabeth Lyman and Frances Turner; 39 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

The burial office and eucharistic service will be offered for Mrs. Hoyt on Wednesday, March 3 at 10 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Arlington with the Rev. Bradford Clark, rector, officiating. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Arlington with interment to take place later this spring in the West Arlington Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Arlington Chapel of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m.
