Rose Luciani Martelle

HOOSICK FALLS Rose Luciani Martelle, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 6, 2012.

Rose was born in the Bronx the daughter of the late John and Jennie (Ribaudo)Russo and relocated to the Cambridge, N.Y., area as a teenager. She was married in 1941 to the love of her life, Marcello Luciani. Together they raised three daughters until 1958 when Marcello was tragically killed in a scuba diving accident.

As a single mother Rose began a career as a skilled garment worker and after her retirement continued to be active working for the Bennington Area Chamber of Commerce and volunteering at Bennington Hospital. Later in life she found great pleasure working with Hoosick Falls school children as a Foster Grandparent. Rose's personal pursuits included traveling, camping ,bocci, golf, ping pong and never saying no to a party. Later in life she was a regular participant in the activities at the Hoosick Falls Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed many happy times and friendships there. Rose was also a member of many local service and fraternal organizations and continued as a long-standing (49 years) member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Rose is survived by her three daughters,Jean Luciani of Hoosick Falls, Linda Randles of Cambridge and Diane Sulpizi of Eagle Bridge; her five grandchildren Larissa Shapiro,Marcello Giarigiari,Lisa Randles, Roseanna Sulpizi and Nicky Sulpizi; and her five great-grandchildren Evan and Dessa Shapiro, Sofia Preda and Matthew and Ethan Wistuk. In addition to her parents and husband Marcello, Rose was predeceased by her brother Anthony Russo of Cambridge, her ex-husband James Martelle and a close companion Sam Calliano of Bennington.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Arrangements are under direction of Mahar Funeral Home 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY. Calling hours at the Funeral Home will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday September 9, 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon Monday September 10, 2012 at the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. A private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers contributions in Rose's memory be made to the Hoosick Falls Senior Citizens Center through the Funeral Home.
