Obituary Condolences

SOUTH LONDONDERRY -- Rosemary Lucy Dolan Boncek Oertel, 67, of South Londonderry, formerly of Seymour and Southbury, Conn., died Jan. 22, 2008, suddenly while at home. Rosemary was born the third of five daughters to Francis E. Dolan and Rita McEnroe Dolan on Sept. 17, 1940, in the Bronx.

She attended Central High School in Bridgeport, Conn., and received her Baccalaureate Degree from the University of Bridgeport’s School of Dental Hygiene in 1960.

After nuptials to Louis T. Boncek on May 17, 1961, the couple resided in Fairfield before moving to Seymour in 1969. After divorcing, Rosemary moved to Southbury in 1986 and lived there with her future husband, Albert Oertel. Rosemary and Al moved to South Londonderry in 1993; were married August 7, 2001, and remained in Vermont until her death last Tuesday.

In Rosemary’s early career years, she worked as a dental hygienist until postponing her career to raise her children. Later, Rosemary returned to the workplace in the service industry. She was employed first at Denny’s Restaurant in West Haven, Conn., where she met her future husband, Al. She next worked for Harrison Inn and Conference Center in Southbury, Conn., as a fine dining server for many years until moving to Vermont. There, she was employed by Johnny Seasaws Restaurant, The Wiley Inn, and other private employers for whom she did catering and home maintenance and organization.

Rosemary was involved in a variety of organizations in her lifetime, many having to do with playing an active parenting role. She coached Pop Warner cheerleading for the 1975-76 seasons and worked diligently with George J. Hummel Little League Boys and Girls teams, volunteering her time and efforts tirelessly.

Basically, she was one of the original “soccer moms;” having four children involved in every seasonal sport, following her children’s teams, and always supplying bubble gum and drinks. Rosemary was a member of the Sahara Club in Seymour, and cooked breakfast on Sunday mornings for many years. She was an active member of St. Augustine’s Church while a resident of Seymour.

Although predeceased by her parents, Rosemary leaves behind her stepmom of many years, Frances M. Dolan; her beloved husband, Albert Oertel; four sisters and their husbands; Rita Dolan of Southington; Mary Frances and Robert Wolf of Shelton; Monica and David Pedersen of Rhode Island; and Nancy and John Cronin of Hamden.

She leaves her children, Louis T. Boncek Jr. of Seymour; Lori Masters, of Beacon Falls; Rebecca O’Keefe, of Illinois; and Paul Boncek, of Woodbury; her beloved grandchildren, Meghan Masters, Joshua Mariotti, Jacob Mariotti, and Carolyn (Carli) Mariotti of Beacon Falls; Thomas O’Keefe, Sarah Jane (Sage) O’Keefe, and Kathleen (Kit) O’Keefe of Illinois; Christian Boncek, of Woodbury; and Zachary Boncek, of Waterbury. She was Godmother to Jocelyn Ibsen, of Shelton, and Kit O’Keefe, of Illinois.

She shared a loving relationship with Albert’s children, Maria Oertel, Elizabeth Oertel, and Peter Oertel, of New Haven, Conn. She also leaves her ex-husband, Louis T. Boncek, of Florida, and her ex-mother-in-law, Nellie Boncek, of Florida. She joins in heaven her many beloved pets, especially her recently deceased Beagle, Honor, and her tabby cat, Bailey; and leaves behind her Beagle, Molly, and her two cats, Barnum, and Alex.

She also leaves many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, one great grandchild and namesake, Madison Rose, and many, many friends and acquaintances. Mass services will be held at St. Lawrence Church, in Shelton, Conn., on Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at 11 a.m., with a reception following at the Wolf residence, 6 Tuckahoe Drive, Shelton, Conn. There will be a service in Peru, on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Wiley Inn, 2759 Route 11, Peru.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Rosemary’s memory may be sent to the Animals Friends of Connecticut or the Londonderry Volunteer Rescue Squad c/o Brewster Funeral Service, PO Box 885, Manchester, VT 05255.
