Roxanne (Sheldon) Benson

CHELSEA, VT. Roxanne (Sheldon) Benson, 43, died on Friday, May 1, 2015 at home with her family after a six-year battle with a rare type of cancer. Roxanne was born in Dorset, Vt. attended Burr and Burton Seminary in Manchester, Vt. and Norwich University's Adult Degree program achieving a double major in psychology and history. She worked in non-profit organizations focused on helping children. Roxanne's greatest joy in life was her son, Nicholas. She was incredibly proud of his accomplishments and his career path as a firefighter and an Emergency Medical Technician, and her grandchildren. Roxanne's interests included knitting, crafts, reading, writing, photography, riding her motorcycle, going to the ocean, spending time with her son, family, grandchildren, friends, and her faithful dog, Riley. Roxanne is survived by her son, Nicholas Benson of Chelsea, Vt.; her parents, John and Sharon Sheldon of Dorset, Vt.; her bonus children, Jennifer, Erika and Brian Ward of Braintree and Randolph, Vt.; her grandchildren, Keegan and Kailee Tabor, and Gavin and Payge Skinner of Randolph and Bethel, Vt.; and many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her beloved sister, Robyn (Sheldon) Wilkerson; as well as her maternal and paternal grandparents. FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be no public calling hours. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 9, at 1 p.m. at the Green Mountain Gospel Chapel, 106 Hebard Hill Road, Randolph, Vt. The burial will be held immediately following the service in the West Hill Cemetery in Chelsea, Vt. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either: Chelsea Fire Dept., P.O. Box 264, Chelsea, VT 05038 or First Branch Ambulance, P.O. Box 74, Chelsea, VT 05038. Arrangements are under the direction of the BOARDWAY CILLEY FUNERAL HOME in Chelsea, Vt.
