Roy L. Mattison 1922 - 2009 SHAFTSBURY Roy Leonard Mattison, 86, of North Road passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, April 16, 2009, at the Centers for Living and rehabilitation in Bennington, surrounded by his family. Born in Glastenbury on June 10, 1922, the son of Ira and Louise Dunham Mattison, Roy attended Maple Hill School. Roy was a heavy equipment operator and worked for the William E. Dailey Company and then for Leo Harrington Construction before semi-retiring and continuing to work part-time. Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseshoes, and playing cards. He cherished times spent with his family and his dog, Champ. Roy leaves his wife, the former Buelah Greene, whom he married in Shaftsbury on Aug. 30, 1979; his adopted son, Leon Bourn, and his wife, Feruza, of Pownal; his grandsons, Leroy, Rodney and Joshua Bourn, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, James Mattison. FUNERAL NOTICE: A celebration of the life of Roy Leonard Mattison will be Monday, April 20, 2009, at 10 a.m. at HANSON-WALBRIDGE FUNERAL HOME, 213 West Main St., Bennington. The Rev. David Smith of the First United Methodist Church in Shaftsbury will conduct the service. Interment will follow in the family lot in Waite Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Sunday, April 19, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
