SANDGATE -- Roy Wilbur McBride, 88, a summer resident of Sandgate, died on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 in Ocala, Fla. Mr. McBride was born on Feb. 8, 1916 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of James and Elsie (Deborst) McBride. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during W.W. II as a bomber pilot.

In his earlier years, Mr. McBride resided in New York where he retired as a lieutenant from the New York Fire Department. He had also worked for the law firm Royal, Kaguel and Rogers in New York. In his later years, Mr. McBride spent his summers in Sandgate and winters in Ocala, Fla. He was a member of the Sandgate United Methodist Church and the Manchester Country Club. Mr. McBride was an avid golfer and especially proud of his hole-in-one, scored at the Manchester Country Club.

Mr. McBride is survived by a daughter, Susan Constable of Lake Mary, Fla.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and his wife, Vicki McBride of Ocala, Fla. A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, June 5 at 11 a.m. at the Sandgate United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Bort, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the McBride family lot at the Sandgate Cemetery. Gifts in Mr. McBride’s memory may be made to the Sandgate United Methodist Church in care of the Arlington Chapel of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 528, Arlington, VT 05250.
