Ruth Mae Dragon 1923-2010 Ruth Mae Dragon of Glenwood Springs Colorado died September 17, 2010. She was born in Scotia N.Y. on May 28, 1923 to John and Catherine O'Rourke. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Ruth married Alexander Dragon of Bennington in 1955. After a few years in Massachusetts they returned to Bennington to operate the family business, Dragon's shoes on Main Street. Ruth was a long time volunteer at Putnam Memorial hospital; the couple attended John the Baptist Catholic Church. Six years after Mr. Dragon's death in 1978, Ruth married Harold Croney of St. Augustine Florida, when Mr. Croney died in 1998 Ruth moved to Glenwood Springs to be near her stepson. Making friends out of strangers was Ruth's favorite pastime. She loved hosting parties and dinners, the more guests the better. She created fun and fond memories. Although Ruth had no children of her own, she was loving and supportive of Mr. Dragon's daughter and son. Ruth is survived by her step children and their families. Carroll Dragon Campbell of Water Ford Vt., Andrew and Sara Campbell of Lansdaff N.H., Ben and Colby Campbell Blaney of Goffstown N.H., John Alexander Dragon of Glenwood Springs Co., Marge Dragon of Longmont Co., Timothy and Gina Dragon Pedrick of Glenwood Springs Co., and Carroll Dragon of Firestone Co. Also surviving are six great grandchildren, Silas Skoglund, Cavot Blaney, Sam and Sarah Toomer and Alexander and John Jacob McPherson. FUNERAL NOTICE: Committal will be at 10:30 a.m., October 2, 2010 at Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington Vermont.
