BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Ruth Jean Wells, 80, a former resident of Sparta, N.J., died Wednesday morning, Nov. 5, 2003 at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation following an extended illness.

Mrs. Wells was born in Orange, N.J. on Oct. 19, 1923. She was the daughter of Albert and Erna (Rosenthal) Theurer. She grew up in East Orange, where she was a graduate of Clifford High School. She continued her education at Edgewood Park Junior College in Briar Cliff Manor, N.Y., where she received her degree as a medical technician. Prior to raising her family she had worked for several doctors’ practices in northern New Jersey.

She was married to Warren G. Wells on Nov. 28, 1947 in East Orange. Mrs. Wells was a longtime member of the Grace Presbyterian Church in Montclair, N.J. She enjoyed playing the organ and piano and was a member of the Montclair Music Club. She was a lifetime member of the Little Falls (N.J.) Women’s Club and a member of the Lake Mohawk (N.J.) Country Club.

In addition to her husband, Warren G. Wells of Sparta, she leaves her three sons, Jeffrey C. Wells of Eugene, Ore., Russell W. Wells of Shaftsbury and Christopher G. Wells of Searcy, Ark.; a daughter, Wendy S. Schimandle of Rocklin, Calif.; a sister, Constance Froggatt of Palatine, Ill.; her nine grandchildren, Russell W. Wells Jr., Jay Wells, Zachary Wells, Jacob Wells, Lucas Wells, Nicholas Wells, Tim Schimandle, Andrew Schimandle and Christina Schimandle.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Albert W. Theurer, DDS and Harold C. Theurer,, DDS.

A service of remembrance will be held on Friday, Nov. 21 at 5 p.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Edwin Blue, pastor of the Missionary Alliance Church, officiating. A memorial reception will follow at the funeral home.

There will be a memorial service Sunday, Nov. 23 at 3 p.m. at the Grace Presbyterian Church, Grove St. and Tuxedo Ave. in Montclair.
