Obituary Condolences

POWNAL -- Ruth J. Joly, 70, widow of Wilfrid J. “Sonny” Joly, a former long-time resident of Barbers Pond Road, Pownal, died Sunday, April 29, 2007, in Shaftsbury.

Born in Bennington on Sept. 1, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Vien and Catherine (Goodwin) Vien O’Brien. She received her education in the Pownal schools.

Mr. and Mrs. Joly were married Sept. 6, 1952, in Bennington. Mr. Joly died July 28, 1996.

Mrs. Joly was employed at Bijur Lubricating Company for over 35 years until her retirement. She later worked part time in the security department at Bennington College.

Mrs. Joly loved all types of animals, especially her dogs and horses.

Survivors include a son, William J. Joly of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; two grandsons, William J. Joly II of Bennington and Richie L. Joly of Jamestown, N.Y.; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Vien of Pownal and Joseph Loyzelle of Canandaigua, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Joly was predeceased by a sister and brother, Jane Beauregard and George Vien.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday, May 3, 2007, at 10 a.m. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. Burial will take place in the family lot in Morgan Memorial Cemetery, Pownal.
