Obituary Condolences

WEST DOVER -- Mrs. Ruth (Hamilton) Kersten, 91, of West Dover died Sunday evening Nov. 7, 2004, at the Crescent Manor Care Center in Bennington, surrounded by her family and favorite caregivers where she had been a resident the last three years.

Mrs. Kersten was born in Connelley, N.Y. on June 13, 1913. She was the daughter of the late Alexander and Louise (Still) Hamilton. She was proud of being a direct descendent, on her father's side, of Alexander Hamilton, the American patriot. In 1936 she married Henry W. Kersten, who predeceased her on Nov. 2, 1996.

She loved animals, plants, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, fishing and just getting up and going somewhere. She was affectionately known as "Trouble" by the caregivers at Crescent Manor where she instigated a boat trip on Lake Whitingham in Wilmington and fishing trips for the residents.

She loved having her family around, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was especially proud that she could attend her grandson's wedding this past July and walk to her chair.

She is survived by her two children, Louise Kersten Vance of Brooksville, Fla. and Henry (Mickey) Kersten of West Dover; two sisters, Anna Spankuch of Kingston, N.C. and Muriel Rees of Rahway, N.J.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a grandson, John, in 1992.

Graveside committal services will take place at the family lot in Waltwyck Rural Cemetery in Kingston, N.Y. on Nov. 20, 2004 at noon.

There are no calling hours.

Should friends desire, memorial gifts may be made to either the Residents Activity Fund at Crescent Manor Care Center or the Bennington Rescue Squad in care of the Covey & Allen Funeral Home, P. O. Box 215, Wilmington, VT 05363.
