Ruth L. Regan LANESBORO Ruth L. Regan, 86, formerly of 85 Prospect St., died Friday at the Bennington Veterans Home in Bennington, Vt., where she had resided since 2005. A longtime resident of Lanesboro, she was born on Jan. 7, 1923 in Mattapan, Mass., daughter of Upton J. and Edna Weir Hamilton. She was educated in Quincy schools where she graduated from high school. She served in the Coast Guard during World War II. She married her husband, the late John T. Regan on Sept. 7, 1946. He died on Nov. 15, 1972. Mrs. Regan was employed as a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service in Lanesboro for 21 years. She retired in 1985. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pittsfield. She also belonged to the Lanesboro Council on Ageing and the Ladies Extension Group in Lanesboro. She had also been a longtime volunteer with the Lanesboro Scholarship Fund Drive. A 4 H leader, she also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed bird watching, gardening and her dog. She leaves two sons; John T. Regan Jr., and his wife, Rosemary, of Auburn, Mass., and James K. Regan of Lanesboro, a daughter, Christine Crawford, and her husband, Stephen, of Bennington, Vt. She also leaves her son-in-law; Richard Guilds of Lanesboro, and her nine grandchildren; Jeffrey Regan, Jennifer Billert, Robin Bates, Brett Crawford, Erin Dowling, Lisa Guilds, Vinnie Regan, Jamie Regan and Shannon Regan as well as 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter; the late Kathleen B. Guilds who died in March of 2007 and by her daughter-in-law, the late Marianne Regan who died Aug. 18, 2009. She was also predeceased by two brothers; Vernon and Paul Hamilton and by a sister, the late Edna Matson. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Ruth L. Regan who died Sept. 11, 2009, will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield conducted by the Rev. Dr. Luis E. Benavides, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Pittsfield. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Lanesboro. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Dery Funeral Home. Memorial donations in memory of Mrs. Regan may be made to in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
