CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- Ruth P. McKernon, 94, formerly of Maple Avenue, died peacefully at Hoosick Falls Health Center on Friday, Jan. 9, 2004. She was the widow of Alton B. McKernon who died in 1974.

Born Oct. 9, 1909 in Sweden, Ruth was the oldest of the 10 children born to T. Adolph and Hanna (Nillson) Pearson. When she was 2 years old, her parents moved the family to a farm in Easton where she lived until she moved into Cambridge after her marriage.

Ruth worked for Asgrow Seed Company and then as an inspector at Reis’ Mill. She enjoyed handwork, especially crocheting, gardening, cooking and baking. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker.

She was a member of the Cambridge United Methodist Church.

She is predeceased by eight of her siblings, George, Nelsen, Adolph, Harold, Hilding, and Per Pearson, Edith Gaylord and Bertha Rhodes.

Survivors include five children, Hanna Alexander, Ethel McKernon, Eleanor Kent and Donald McKernon, all of Cambridge, and Alton B. McKernon, Jr. of Red House, W.Va.; a sister Helen Norton of Schuylerville; two sisters-in-law, Mary and Phyllis Pearson; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main Street, Cambridge.

The Rev. Bruce Dodd of the Cambridge United Presbyterian Church will conduct the funeral service at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the spring at Woodlands Cemetery, Cambridge.
