1928 - 2015 Ruth Marie Vosburgh Whitman, wife of the late R. Gerald Whitman, entered into eternal life on December 5, 2015 at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls, NY. The daughter of the late John A. and Magdalena (Alsheimer) Vosburgh of Latham, NY she was born January 7, 1928. Ruth was a graduate of Latham School #10, Waterveliet High School and Troy Business College. She worked for the former Grand Union Company during her school years. After college she worked for MetLife Insurance Company; an active member of Delta Gamma Delta 1943-1956 and national president in 1952. She was Manager-Treasurer of the United Associates Federal Credit Union (formerly the Grand Union Federal Credit Union) for 24 years, retiring in 1994. She was the mother of five children, Ronald Whitman who is deceased, Cheryl Whitman of Colchester, CT, Gary Whitman of West Chazey, NY, Timothy Whitman of Hoosick, NY and Rory Whitman of Fort Ann, NY. Grandmother to four, Lori, Christopher, Mattie and Eliza Whitman and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ruth was predeceased by four brothers, Raymond, Andrew, Robert and Dr. John Vosburgh and a sister, Mary Gidley. FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT on Wednesday from 8:45 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. The funeral will be held from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington on Wednesday December 9, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place in the family lot in the Gerald B. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. on Wednesday at 2 p.m. If friends desire, contributions in memory of Ruth M. Whitman may be made to either the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls New York or through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
