Ryszard Kozaczuk Obituary
Ryszard Kozaczuk

"Richie Rich""The Wizard" 1950 - 2014 HOOSICK FALLS, NY Ryszard Kozaczuk, 64, passed away at the Hoosick Falls Health Center next to his beloved wife, Ewa Kozaczuk, after a three year long battle with melanoma. Ryszard was born in Szczecin, Poland and emigrated to the United States in 1981. He was sponsored by the Melesky Family (Elise Melesky and Bob Melesky) in 1981 in order to escape martial law in Szczecin, Poland at the time. Ryszard was able to arrive in Hoosick Falls, NY in 1981, worked hard and patiently waited one year for his wife and six year old daughter to obtain visas to enter the United States. They finally arrived in JFK Airport in 1982 after a difficult time in Austria. Ryszard worked with Sutton Landscaping as a general laborer in 1981 but then was able to obtain a permanent position with Lydall, Inc. (now Interface Solutions) in 1982. He always worked hard and continued to work at Interface Solutions throughout his battle with cancer until June 2014 when he no longer had the strength to work there. Ryszard took great pride in the house that he purchased and built on land in Hoosick Falls on March 1991. He built the fence, the deck, cleared the land and cleaned up the pond. He could be seen mowing and taking care of his lawn on a daily basis. One of Ryszard's passions was cycling. In 2003 he participated in Bike New York every May. He had no problem cycling the 60 miles through the Five Boroughs and would often outpace his son too. His other passion was travelling. Ryszard was an avid traveler who had visited 32 States. He also travelled to Europe, including Monoco, Croatia, Greece, Spain, Holland, Italy, Germany and of course his beloved Poland. Ryszard is survived by Ewa, his wife of 40 years, his children, Kasia Kozaczuk and Tom (TK) Kozaczuk both of whom he was very proud. Tom Kozaczuk became a team lead at General Electric and Ryszard was very proud that his son obtained a job at GE and was able to start a new chapter in his life. Kasia Kozaczuk currently works as a financial analyst with CACI, Inc. Ryszard is predeceased by his sister, Alina Romaniuk of Las Vegas, NV and his father, Jan Kozaczuk of Szczecin, Poland. FUNERAL NOTICE: A funeral mass will be held in the honor of Ryszard Kozaczuk on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Hoosick Falls, NY. As Ryszard requested after the mass, a celebration will be held at the Hoosick Falls Fire Department's Fire Hall at the corner of Griffin Avenue and Main St. in Hoosick Falls, NY immediately after the 11 a.m. mass. The family invites all to attend and to share in the memories of Ryszard's life. Ryszard and Ewa always believed in helping others in their community, so in lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Karen McGovern Fund in Hoosick Falls, through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St., Hoosick Falls, NY to help others in the community in their time of need. The family wishes to thank Dr. Howard and the staff of the Cancer Center in Bennington for the care and compassion they showed Ryszard and his family over the last three years as he struggled with Melanoma. They also would like to thank the staff of Unit B at the Hoosick Falls Health Center for ensuring that Ryszard's wish to be able to spend his last four difficult months in comfort surrounded by his family. The family would like to express sincere thanks to Bob and Elise Melesky who believed in humanity and compassion and not only sponsored Ryszard to come from Poland to the United States in 1981 but also helped him to find a job in the US, be introduced to the American culture and enabled him to live the American dream through hard work and perseverance. Thank you! Ryszard will be remembered by his strong work ethic and his ability to touch so many people in the community. Each and every person who knew Ryszard knew they were lucky and were better people because of his personality and loyalty. Ryszard's message to those who knew him and cared for him would be not to cry and mourn that he is gone, but instead to look to our hearts, because that is where he will always be.
