1919 - 2015 BENNINGTON Sallie Kate Adams, 96, passed September 2, 2015 at the home of her son, surrounded by her loved ones. Sallie was born Sallie Kate Buck April 10, 1919 at the home farm, on Buck Plantation on Buffalo Mountain, East Tennessee to Daniel McInturff Buck and Lucy Camora Anderson. She attended local schools before matriculating to Milligan College for pre-nursing preparation. Sallie attended John Hopkins Hospital receiving her RN Degree. She was head nurse at Phipps Psychiatric before meeting and eventually marrying Caryl Tracy Adams who was doing honors work at Maryland School of Dentistry. Caryl entered the U. S. Army Dental Corp after graduating as a 2nd Lieutenant. Sallie joined Caryl at his postings, marrying her true love July 15, 1944 in Canton, ILL. Sallie worked at an Osteopathic Hospital until Caryl was posted to Ft. Leavenworth. After Caryl was discharged from the Army as a Captain, Caryl and Sallie opened a home dental office in Bennington, VT until Caryl retired at age 81. Following years of volunteer work for the Red Cross Blood Drives and the United Counseling Service Thrift Shop, Sallie begin to invest in real estate in 1966, eventually owning properties in 6 towns and two states. When not working as a landlady and real estate developer, Sallie loved to keep a large garden with her husband at the family's stone farm house in West Haven. Sallie especially enjoyed the evenings on the front porch with Caryl at Lakeside Farms and the large family gatherings for deer season and Thanksgiving. Sallie was predeceased by her husband, her mother, father, two sisters, Mary Rasar and Agnes Zahn, a brother Thomas Buck, three nieces, Molly Zahn, Lucy Peters, and Patti Rasar and her nephew ,John Rasar. Sallie is survived by her two sons and their wives, John Tracy and Cindy Adams and Caryl Philip and Lyn Adams of Fair Haven, two granddaughters, Melissa Kate Adams-Silva and her husband, Adam Silva of St. Albans, VT and Amy McFarland and her husband, Bill of Vestavia, Alabama, seven great-grandchildren, Yuki, In-shik, Kaemon and Miki Adams-Silva, Emma Kate and Kinsey Ann McFarland and Danielle Muratorri. She is also survived by her brother Tom's wife, Eleanor, her loving nieces Sue Ready, Anne Greene and Helen Lyons and nephews, Daniel Zahn and Daniel Buck and the surviving spouses as well as many grandnieces and grand-nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral arrangements were handled by Durfee Funeral Home where private services were held and eulogies delivered by Sallie's sons. Interment followed at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Fair Haven, VT beside her husband, Caryl. Her son, the Rev. John T. Adams preformed her committal rites.
