WEST RUTLAND -- Samuel Valach, 90, of West Rutland died Dec. 1 at Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.

He was born in West Rutland, Sept. 28, 1916, the son of Matthew and Irma (Kote) Valach.

Mr. Valach was married to Priscilla T. (Lloyd) Valach who died Aug. 21, 1997.

Samuel was an Army Veteran of WW II, serving in the European Theater of Operations.

He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Rutland and a life member of the West Rutland American Legion Post # 87, where he served as commander from 1980 to 1983.

Mr. Valach was employed by the Vermont Marble Co. for many years, retiring years ago.

Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Zuk of Arlington; a daughter-in-law, Lynn Valach of West Rutland; two sisters, Margaret Spaulding and Edith Barrett of Rutland; one brother, William Valach of Rutland; four grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, and by a son, David S. Valach, on May 10, 2005; two sisters, Irma Costa and Gezella Parker; and by three brothers, Clarence Valach, Victor Valach and Alof Valach.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Rutland. Officiating will be the Rev. Sharon Hughes, pastor.

Burial will follow with military honors in St. Bridget’s Cemetery in West Rutland.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
