1934 - 2016 Manchester Center, VT. Sarah Canfield Smith passed away Sunday September 11, 2016, at the Equinox Terrace Assisted Living facility, where she had resided since May 2015. Sarah was born in New York City on January 22, 1934, the daughter of Robert E. Canfield and Angelica Singleton Gibbs. She graduated from the George School in Newtown, Pennsylvania, in 1951, and received her B.A. from Radcliffe College in 1955. She was for many years the head of St. Ann's Preschool in Brooklyn, NY. Following her retirement, she moved to the Canfield family farmhouse in Arlington, Vermont, and became active in the community. She was a member of St. James' Episcopal Church, where she served on the vestry committee and helped produce the church bulletin. She was a volunteer at the Martha Canfield Library, serving on the collection committee and working at the library book sales. She volunteered at the library's Russell Vermontiana Collection and created a walking tour guide to historic houses in Arlington. She was also a member of the Arlington Garden Club and the Association of American University Women, and she led a weekly Bone Builders class in East Arlington. Sarah is survived by her children, Wendy, Anthony, and Hope Smith, her sons-in-law, Joe Mobilia and Ramin Rezvani, her daughter-in-law, Jeanne Silkworth, and her grandchildren Hannah, William, and Beatrice Smith, Natasha and Leila Rezvani, and Luca Mobilia. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held at St. James' Episcopal Church, 46 Church Street, Arlington, on Saturday, October 22 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Martha Canfield Library, 528 East Arlington Road, Arlington, VT 05250
