Shirley Jean Chenaille 1933-2011 POWNAL Shirley Jean Chenaille, 78, widow of Alfred "Red" Chenaille, a resident of Parkview Drive, Pownal, died peacefully Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Rivers Edge Community Care Home in Bennington following a long illness. Born in Bennington March 28, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Helena (Burgess) Bolton. She received her education in the Bennington schools and was a graduate of Bennington High School. Shirley and Red were married in Bennington on June 3, 1950. Shirley died on the 26th anniversary of her husband's death, August 17, 1985. Shirley was a member of both the Pownal Senior Citizens Club and the Pownal Center Fire Department Ladies Auxillary. She had also served on the board of Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal. Shirley especially enjoyed cooking, bowling, playing cards and caring for her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Deborah and Michael Lewis of Graham, Texas, Jill and Tim Wansbury of Winter Springs, Florida, Scott and Karen Chenaille of Arlington and Traci and Richard Cristofolini of Stamford; a very close family member, Wendy Chenaille of Bennington; her grandchildren, Devin Fisher, Shayna Wells, Amanda and Mikaela Lewis, Zachary and Andre-Anne Chenaille and Caleb and Lorenzo Cristofolini; two great-grandchildren, Mady-Grace Fisher and Carson Michael Wells; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Linda Bolton of North Bennington and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was predeceased by a sister, Elva Chenaille. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Mrs. Chenaille's cousin, Deacon Gregory LaFreniere, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. Burial will take place in the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery, Pownal. Should friends desire memorial contributions in Shirley Jean Chenaille's memory may be made to either VNA & Hospice of Southwestern Vermont Health Care or to the Pownal Valley Fire Department through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
