MANCHESTER -- Shirley Dodge Blessing, 67, of Dorset and formerly of Piseco, N.Y., died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Michael McMillen, in Altamont, N.Y. with her family by her side.

She was born in Frankfort, N.Y. on Jan. 3, 1938, the daughter of Budlong Arthur and Bertha Eva (Beauchamp) Dodge, and attended local schools.

She worked as a senior account clerk for Hamilton County, N.Y. for many years, until retiring. Shirley was a member of the Piseco Women’s Club, the Piseco Fire Department Auxiliary, the Piseco Ridge Riders and the Jolly Girls Club.

She is survived by her five children, Gayle B. Rountree of Manchester Center, Suzanne B. McMillen and her husband Michael of Altamont, David E. Blessing of Burlington, Nancy L. Blessing and her husband Douglas Johnstone of Pittsfield and Peter J. Blessing of Piseco; seven grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Abby and Lydia Rountree, Ryan Shepardson, Patrick and Sarah McMillen and Maya and Aili Johnstone; her brother Robert Dodge and his wife Dolores of Whitesboro, N.Y.; her sister Carol Dolan and her husband Francis of Rome, N.Y.; her sister-in-law Dorothy L. Blessing of Albany, N.Y.; a special aunt, Helen Dodge Pierson of Stafford, Va.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her brother Richard Dodge, who died in 2002.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m. at Zion Episcopal Church in Manchester Center. Interment will be in the spring in Higgins Bay Cemetery in Piseco. There are no visiting hours.
