Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Shirley F. Maguire, 72, a resident of County Street, died Tuesday Sept. 9, 2003 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center surrounded by her family, following a long illness.

Born in Bennington, Oct. 2, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ruth (Davenport) Houran. She received her education in Bennington.

Shirley married John H. Maguire on Nov. 13, 1949 in Bennington.

In earlier years, Shirley was employed at Thomson’s Manufacturing Company in Bennington and later for many years at the Eveready Battery Company in Bennington, from which she retired.

Shirley loved spending time with her husband, John, her family, and friends. She and her husband looked forward to their annual trip to the Maine coastline. Shirley also enjoyed cooking and loved the time she spent with her three best friends as they celebrated their birthdays throughout the years. Her family and close friends remained paramount in her life. Her two grandchildren, Chris and Kara, meant the world to her, and she loved the time they shared together.

Survivors include her husband John H. Maguire of Bennington; two sons, Greg Maguire and his wife Sue of North Bennington, and Ronald Maguire of Bennington; two grandchildren, Chris and Kara Maguire both of North Bennington; four sisters, June Geddes of Manchester, Joyce Wetherbee of Colchester, Linda Harvey of Shaftsbury, and Jill Hurley of Bennington; two brothers, Charles Houran Jr. of Bennington and William Houran of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 at 10 a.m.

The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home Friday, Sept. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
