NORTH BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Shirley M. Johnson, 73, a resident of Murphy Road in North Bennington, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004. She was born in Bennington on March 25, 1931 and was the daughter of Charles Blake and the former Mildred Gauthier. She received her education in Bennington schools and is a graduate of Bennington High School, class of 1949.

Mrs. Johnson was employed for many years at Union Carbide Corp., and worked there until she retired.

She enjoyed reading, crafts and crossword puzzles. Her main interest was her family.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughter Cheryl LaCroix and her fiancé Thomas Wright of Newbury; her son Robbie and his friend Amy of Bennington; she has a third son, Kenneth R. Johnson of Wells; and one brother, Gregory Blake of Bennington. She has eight grandchildren, Jenna Boudreau and her husband Kris, Jeff Johnson and his wife Nikki Dockum, Jacob Johnson and his friend Kim, Kenneth Johnson and wife Melanie, Jodi Johnson and fiancé George Nelson, Stephen LaCroix, Suzy Johnson and Tammy Galt. Mrs. Johnson has five great-grandchildren, Justin Lavoie, Elle Marie Boudreau, Lauren Johnson, Owen Galt and Jeremy Johnson; special friends, Jean Pierce and Tara Kelher; her special cousin, Martha Proper; her aunts and uncles, Rita and Leonard Farrington, Helen Whitman, Clara Bishop; a special niece, Kelly Mayer, and her family, Ron and Kayla; and many other nieces and nephews. She has two sisters-in-law, Lorretta and Judy Blake, and one brother-in-law, Roger Farnum. Mrs. Johnson is also survived by her friends, Brenda Serafin, Sonya Clark, Cathy Giogi; and home health aides, Chris, Laurie and Christy. Mrs. Johnson is predeceased by two sons, Clifton C. Johnson and Peter E. Johnson; two brothers, Donald Blake and Michael Blake; and one sister, Barbara Farnum.

Services and interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours scheduled. Memorials in her honor may be made to the Bennington Area Home Health Hospice through the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
