WATERTOWN, Conn. -- Mrs. Shirley Mae (Linn) Emerick, 78, of Guernseytown Road, died Thursday, May 11, 2006, at Waterbury Hospital. She was the widow of Charles Lindbergh Emerick Sr.

Mrs. Emerick was born in New Britain on Aug. 5, 1927. She was the daughter of the late William R. and Elsa (Eggert) Linn. She was raised in New Britain and the Highland Lake section of Winsted, had lived five years in Waterbury and settled in Watertown in 1957. She was a graduate of Gilbert High School in Winsted and graduated in the top of her class from Hartford Hospital School of Nursing. During the course of her nursing career, she worked at Waterbury Hospital and Watertown Convalarium, and did private duty. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waterbury, where she was active in its ladies’ guild. She was also a memebr of the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. Her hobbies and interests included sewing, knitting, crocheting, dolls, and homemaking.

She leaves five sons, Charles L. Emerick Jr. of Bondsville, Mass., Jeffrey L. Emerick of Watertown, Bruce E. Emerick of Watertown, David W. Emerick of Watertown and Bennington, Vt., and Paul A. Emerick of Wolcott; two daughters, Mary Jane Coffey of Okeechobee, Fla., and Kathleen A. Bocci of Waterbury; five grandsons; and a granddaughter. Her son, Robert J. Emerick, and two sisters, Lorraine Miller and Marjorie White, are deceased.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 503 Chase Parkway, Waterbury. The family will gather with friends and relatives following the service in the church. Graveside services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in West Hartland Cemetery, West Hartland. Friends may call at Hickox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown, Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m., and Tuesday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the church.
