Shirley L. Maines
1920 - 2010 SAUGERTIES, NY Shirley L. Maines, 89, of Treis Terrace, Saugerties, died Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, Bennington, VT., after a brief illness.
Born Aug. 29, 1920, in Saugerties she was the daughter of Everett and Catherine Krause Rightmyer. A longtime resident of Saugerties, Shirley recently resided for a short time in Bennington at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation.
She leaves three sons, Richard G. "Dick" Maines and his wife, Susan, of Newburyport, Mass., Thomas A. Maines and his wife, Pamela, of Saugerties, N.Y., and William J. "Billy" Maines and his wife, Paula, of Beulah, Miss.; one daughter, Catherine Brady, and her husband, Michael, of Bennington, Vt.; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard "Dick" Maines in1996. She was also pre-deceased by a granddaughter, Naomi Maines, one brother, Robert Rightmyer, and a sister, Phyllis Brink.
Shirley embraced life with purpose, enthusiasm and commitment. She was an employee of the Town of Saugerties, Teetsel Insurance Agency and Chase Manhattan Bank during her working years.
She enjoyed volunteering and working to make her community a better place. She gave her time and energy to the Saugerties Public Library, various Church activities where she was a parishioner at St. Mary of the Snow RC Church and the organizations and activities in which her children were involved. Shirley spent a lot of bench time at baseball games, football games, concerts and recitals as her children grew up in Saugerties.
Throughout her life, Shirley enjoyed the activities of bowling, golf and gardening, but her greatest source of contentment came from home, her family and friends. She will be missed.
FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral mass was held at Saint Mary of the Snow RC Church on Friday June 18, 2010, with the Rev. Christopher Berean, pastor, officiating. The burial followed in the family lot in Mountain View Cemetery, Saugerties.
