LAKE PLACID, Fla. -- It is with deep sorrow that Michael Hyman and children advise of the passing of his wife and their mother, Shirley R. Hyman. Shirley was born April 13, 1936, in Sheldon, Vt. Shirley went to Heaven on Dec. 12, 2005, at 3:30 p.m.

Shirley lived in West Rupert from 1983 to 1986 and Dorset from 1986 to 1998. She was a very respected businesswoman in retailing and merchandising until the mid-1980s when she became a full-time homemaker. She truly lit up all the lives that came into contact with her wonderful sense of humor and compassion. In 1972 and 1973, she achieved recognition in the angling world setting two new world records for tarpon catches and many additional awards in fishing tournaments.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Michael; four children, Douglas E. Hyman of Cambridge, N.Y., Linda J. Hyman of Brookfield, Conn., Jeremy Bradford Hyland of Lake Worth, Fla., and Carolyn L. Chila of Manchester, Vt.; five amazing grandsons, Douglas Eliot Hyman of Bennington, Vt., Jonathan Eliot Chila and Andrew Avery Chila of Manchester, Vt., and Tyler Hyland and Connor Hyland of Lake Worth, Fla.; a brother, Donald A. Rice of Lake Placid, Fla.; two sisters, Joyce and husband Robert Hazzard of Lake Placid, Fla., and Hortense Maxwell of Edison, N.J.

To all those who knew Shirley, and those that she touched with her love, there will be a memorial service in June 2006 in Manchester. The date is to be determined.

Donations may be made to either Father Flanagan’s Boys and Girls Home or the National Humane Society of America.

God Bless you, Shirley. May the Lord always hold you in the hollow of His hand.
