Sisko M. Contaldi 1909-2010 BENNINGTON Sisko M. Contaldi, 101, widow of Augustine Contaldi, a former resident of Union Street in Bennington died Thursday December 16, 2010 at the Crescent Manor Care Center in Bennington. Born in Helsinki, Finland September 4, 1909, she was the daughter of the late William and Elin (Welin) Merikangas. When she was four years old she came to the United States and lived in New Jersey. At the age of ten she moved to Arlington, Vt. She was a graduate of Arlington Memorial High School class of 1926 and later graduated from Burlington Business College, Burlington, Vt. She was first married to Melvin King in 1928 until they divorced in 1948. She later married Augustine Contaldi in 1949. He died in 1989 while they were living in Glendale, Calif. Following Mr. Contaldi's death she moved to Bennington. In earlier years Mrs. Contaldi was employed in California as a medical secretary in a physician's office and later worked for Walt Disney Productions in their office in Burbank, Calif., until her retirement. Mrs. Contaldi was a former member of St. James Episcopal Church in Arlington, Vt. She enjoyed knitting, crafts, reading and shopping and always had a positive outlook on life. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne Alan King Sr. and Elaine King of Titusville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Tina Murphy and her husband David of Arlington, Wayne King Jr. and his wife Wanda of North Bennington, Teresa Morton of Shaftsbury, Joyce King of Laurel, Md., and James King and his wife Sarah of Titusville, Fla.; eleven great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren, a niece Barbara Flynn Riccho and her husband Vincent of Florida, three nephews, Dennis Flynn and his wife Joanne of Florida, Dr. James Merikangas and his wife Kathy of Maryland and Robert Merikangas and his wife Marilyn of Maryland. Mrs. Contaldi was pre-deceased by a daughter Phyllis King, a brother, Dr. Robert Merikangas and a sister, Sadie Manzo. The entombment will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery Chapel in Arlington, VT. The funeral will be held at Saint James Episcopal Church in Arlington at a time to be announced in May. The burial will follow in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery Contributions in memory of Mrs. Contaldi may be made to the Bennington Rescue Squad through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
