Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Sonya Yvette Walk, 67, a resident of Harbour Road, died Friday evening, Sept. 17, 2004, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation.

Mrs. Walk was born in Pownal on April 15, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Ellis and Florence (Crawford) Maxon. She grew up in Pownal, attending Pownal Elementary School and then Drury High School in North Adams, Mass., from which she graduated. She then attended Bliss Business College, also in North Adams.

She was married to Glenn F. Walk on Feb. 23, 1956 at Hamilton Air Force Base in California. She had traveled extensively with her husband, who made the Air Force his career for 20 years. She had worked for Pacific Telephone in the early years of their marriage and became a stay-at-home mom while her children were young. After her husband’s retirement from the Air Force and their return to the Bennington area, she worked as a secretary with Agway Petroleum for a short time and with Dr. Keith Edwards for 14 years. She retired from a part-time position with Ed Colvin Realtor in 2002.

Mrs. Walk enjoyed her family, her friends, traveling and various types of gardening and needlework. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Bennington.

Mrs. Walk is survived by her husband, Glenn F. Walk of Bennington; a daughter, Kim Hassenpflug, and her husband Keith of Cheshire, Mass.; a son, Kevin Walk, and his wife Kathy of Adams, Mass.; grandchildren Jenny Hassenpflug, Ryan Walk, Amber Smith and Christopher McCarron; her brother Gerald Maxon of Williamstown, Mass; and her close friends Nicole Woodward, Betty Hathaway and Anna Behan, who have made the last years enjoyable. She was predeceased by a brother, Ellis Maxon.

Funeral services will be held at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Norma Drosky, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Bennington, officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal. Friends may call at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home on Monday from 3 to 5 p.m., when the family will be present. Memorial gifts may be made in memory of Mrs. Walk to the Second Chance Animal Shelter in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 957, Bennington, VT 05201.
