Obituary Condolences

Spencer A. Lockrow 1933 - 2011 WEST HOOSICK, NY Spencer A. Lockrow, known as Dick, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2011, at the Albany Medical Center due to complications from an abdominal aortic aneurism. Spencer was 71 and resided in West Hoosick his entire life. He was born at the Old Health Center in Hoosick Falls to the late Linita Whipple and Earle Lockrow on Dec. 10, 1933. He received his education at Hoosick Falls High School and then began his life as a dairy farmer. He poured his remaining years into milking cows and tilling the land. He was a master when it came to doing his job. He always liked the smell of fresh cut hay on a hot summer day. He loved the animals and seemed as if he could live in the barn. He always spoke of the old days when the neighborhood was all farmers and how they always would lend a helping hand. Sons and nephews who worked with him knew what a strong work ethic he had and found it difficult to keep pace even though they were 20 to 30 years younger than he. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and taught his sons to ride. He also enjoyed watching football in the fall. He always said Joe Montana was the best QB to play the game. He lived a full life continuing to do tractor work on the farm even after it was sold. Spencer liked to visit Stewarts regularly with his brother Harold and enjoyed watching the people. He had the gift of gab with anyone that knew him or even didn't know him; you would strike up an hour-long conversation. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Pauline A. (Lebarron) Lockrow, son Gary S. Lockrow of Hoosick Falls, daughter Sharon F. Rabideau and husband Wayne of Greensboro, NC, son Gregory M. Lockrow and wife Melissa of Hoosick Falls, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Spencer is also survived by four sisters, Janet Hoag, Phyllis Crawford, Doris Timmerman, Eleanor Pilling, and a brother, Harold Lockrow, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Gary S. Lockrow Jr., daughter-in-law, Donna M. Lockrow, and three brothers, Ralph, Karl and Gordon Lockrow.
