Obituary Condolences

WEST RUTLAND -- Stanley D. Pietryka, 93, died April 2, 2005 at Rutland Regional Medical Center. He was born Sept. 14, 1911 in West Rutland, the son of John and Mary (Wystepek) Pietryka.

Stanley was a graduate of West Rutland High School and attended Green Mountain College in Poultney. He was a star athlete during his school years. He married Mary Fleming on June 2, 1933 in West Rutland. Mr. Pietryka was employed by Vermont Marble Co., retiring in 1977. Stanley was a member of St. Bridget’s Church. He was a fireman with the West Rutland Fire Department for 47 years, serving as chief for 38 years.

He was one of the founders of West Rutland Little League. He was a football referee, baseball umpire and a Boy Scout leader. Stanley was an avid outdoorsman and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Pietryka of West Rutland; nine children, Mary Miller and her husband Sam of Waterbury, Stanley Pietryka and special friend Tina Graves of West Rutland, Joseph Pietryka and wife Agnes of Randolph, Stephen Pietryka and wife Colleen of Ira; a brother, Napoleon Pietryka and wife Agnes of Randolph; a sister, Gladys Blicharz of Center Rutland; 20 grandchildren; five step grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Robert Dakin, in 2002.

A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in St. Bridget’s Church. Burial will follow in St. Bridget’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
