BENNINGTON -- Stanley Edward Lubeck Sr., 89, a resident of Bennington, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born in Hoboken, N.J., July 11, 1918, he was the beloved son of the late Louis and Carrie (Paulsen) Lubeck.

Mr. Lubeck served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Leon as a Seaman 1st Class. An ironworker by trade, he had been a member of Ironworkers Local 373 of Perth Amboy, N.J. since 1937.

While residing in New Jersey, Mr. Lubeck was active with his sons in the Boy Scouts organization. Together with his wife Marilyn, he moved from Westfield, N.J., to Bennington in 1984.

He enjoyed photography and was involved in many social activities as a member of Moose Lodge 1223, VFW Post 1332 and American Legion Post 13, all of Bennington.

Survivors beside his wife, Marilyn, of Bennington include a daughter, Karin, of Pownal, who was his greatest comfort in his final days; four sons, Stanley Jr. and his wife Karen, of Casa Grande, Ariz., Gerald and his wife Nancy of North Pownal, Tedd Dale of Bennington and Jeffrey of Freehold, N.J.; a daughter-in-law, Mary Jane of Bridgewater, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Sandy, Ken, Lisa, Brian, Jennifer, Todd, Alice and Amber. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, the newest was born on Monday, Nov. 5, 2007. Mr. Lubeck was predeceased by a son, Richard, who died in 1993.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Stanley E. Lubeck will be held on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, at 4 p.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington. Committal services with military honors will be held Monday, Nov. 19, at 11 a.m. at Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery in Schuylerville, New York.
