BENNINGTON - Stanley R. Pike Jr. 95, a resident of Old Bennington, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at his home.

Born in Burlington, VT on July 18, 1921, he was the son of the late Stanley R. and Dorothy (Hill) Pike. In his early years Stanley lived in Montpelier prior to returning to Burlington in 1935. He was a 1938 graduate of Burlington High School and in 1942 graduated from the University of Vermont where he was a member of Delta Psi fraternity.

Following graduation Stanley was accepted into the U.S. Navy V-5 program of World War II and was commissioned a naval aviator at Pensacola Air Station in June1943. He served with patrol squadron VPB-212 until October 1945 when he was honorably discharged.

He married the former Anne Kimball Wills of Bennington in June 1945. Mrs. Pike died on February 12, 1975.

After leaving the Navy Stanley worked at the Wills Insurance Agency in Bennington until beginning employment in the finance office at Bennington College in January 1947. In 1951 he was named the Comptroller at the college. He held this position for 28 years until September 1969. A month later he was appointed as the first administrator of the Bennington Museum where he was in charge of the non-curatorial operations of the Museum where he remained for ten years.

From August 1979 until May 1982 Stanley was employed at Creative Tools in Bennington until being named Director of Finance at Southern Vermont College where he remained until his retirement in 1991. Following his retirement Stanley spent the next twenty years volunteering in the finance office at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

A very devout member of St. Peters Episcopal Church for many years, Stanley served as church organist and choir master from 1947 to 1969. He was the church Treasurer for several years and also served many years as a member of the Vestry.

Stanley was a Past Treasurer and Trustee for the Village of Old Bennington for many years. He was a member of the Bennington Museum and the Bennington County Choral Society.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Thomas F. (Faith) Noonan of Manlius, NY; three daughters, Sara Fiore of Salem, MA, Deborah Pike of Shelburne, VT and Anne Kimball Pike of Concord, NH; a son, Wills M. Pike of Oakdale, CT; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

SERVICES: Funeral services celebrating the life of Stanley R. Pike Jr. will be held from St. Peters Episcopal Church in Bennington on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. where the Burial Office will be offered.

Private committal services will take place at the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
