Steven Schaefer BENNINGTON Steven Schaefer, a long time resident of Pownal Vt., passed away on Feb. 5, 2009. Complications from throat and neck cancer, he was 57. Steve was born on Jan. 24, 1952, in Hartford, Conn., son of the late Bill and Stella Schaefer. He graduated from Galstonbury High School, Glastonbery, Conn. After graduating from high school Steve was an apprentice painter for a German in town named Dieter Greiter. Steve became a proffessional House painter known for his interior painting and attention to detail. Steve moved to Pownal, Vt., in 1975 with his childhood and lifetime friend Dick Trainor of Shushan, N.Y., they loved to fish and hunt together and made many trips to Vermont to do just that, so many trips in fact, one weekend on the way back they decided Vermont was the place they wanted to settle in and Steve spent the rest of his life in Pownal. Steve loved Vermont and had many friends just to mention a few, Rick Cross of Glastonbury, Conn., Jeff and Judy Matson, Dave Prebble, Mike Derosia, Toby Attwood, Hank Mear, Debbie Knights, Debbie Green, Donna Otaviano, John Briggs, Dick and Becky Trainor, his many customers in Williamstown and Bennington, and of coarse his good buddy, Bill Vien of Pownal, who he hunted white rabbits with, he also liked to fish and take his best out to Somerset Reservoir, his favorite place to go and relax. His ashes will be placed on the Island up at Somerset Reservoir. MEMORIAL NOTICE: A service is being planned and his friends will be notified by mail and a date in the paper.
