Stewart W. Bacon 1931 - 2008 BENNINGTON Stewart W. Bacon, 76, formerly of River Road, Westmoreland, N.H., died Monday afternoon, March 17, 2008 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington. Born in Sunderland on Sept. 18, 1931, son of Giles and Ida Sharkey Bacon, he attended local schools. He attended the University of Vermont where he majored in engineering. Stewart was employed by Stone Typesetting, which became American Stradford, for 23 years, retiring in 1983. An Air Force veteran, he served during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Carl Dessaint VFW Post 1034 in Brattleboro. He was also a member of the Brattleboro Elks Lodge. He enjoyed gardening, raising strawberries and squash, reading and fishing. His wife, the former Ailsa Smith, whom he married July 1972, died April 28, 1990. Stewart leaves wo sisters, Shirley Doyle and her husband, Edward, of Florence, Mass., and Dorothy Powers of Shaftsbury, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Roland, Robert, Phil and Clifford Bacon. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services with military honors for Stewart will be held Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Vermont Veterans Home All Faiths Chapel. Interment will be held later in the spring in the family lot in South Village Cemetery in Westmoreland, N.H. There will be no visiting hours.
