Susan McCooey Sherman

ARLINGTON, VT Susan McCooey Sherman, 66, of Arlington, died Friday, April 9, 2010, after a long illness. She attended local schools, graduating from Burr and Burton in 1961. She attended Regis College in Weston, Mass., and received her BA in 1965. She earned her MA in history at the University of Connecticut.

In 1967 she married George Sherman, and the couple shared careers in education. Together they traveled extensively in Europe and enjoyed summer cruises in New England waters on their sailboat.

Susan's career as a teacher covered 26 years and allowed her to teach in Maine, Connecticut and Lima, Peru. She retired from education in 1991, after 22 years at Montville High School in Oakdale, Conn.

Upon retirement, she and her husband moved to Vermont to enjoy their passion, skiing at Bromley Mountain in Peru. They were part of the organizers of the senior group there, The Silver Griffins.

During her retirement, Mrs. Sherman served as a volunteer for many organizations, frequently as secretary or public relations chairperson.

She is survived by her husband, George Sherman of Arlington; brothers, Michael McCooey of Manchester, Vt., and Christopher Bowen of Indialantic, Fla., and many nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Maple Grove Cemetery in Weston, Vt.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Mountain Valley Medical Clinic in Londonderry, Vt., would be appreciated.
