Susan J. Taranto

Susan J. Taranto, formerly of Bennington, Vt., died May 1, 2013 in Winter Haven, Florida. She was 62. She was born and raised in Bennington, Vt., a daughter of the late Harold and Sadie Knapp Sweet. Susan graduated The Seventh Day Adventist School of Bennington, Vt., and moved to Catskill, N.Y., in 1970 where she worked at American Thermostat, Leeds. A member of the NRA, she was a member of the Teamsters Local #294 and belonged to the Church of the Nazarene. She married James Taranto on March, 14, 1971.

Susan moved to Great Bend, NY in 1974 and joined the Great Bend Fire Department. She got her Real Estate License and worked for Tom Humes Realty & Appraisal Service of Black River, N.Y. for many years. She also started and ran her own Pet grooming business called Sue's Pet Grooming of Black River, N.Y.

She returned to Catskill in January 2000 and worked as an associate Broker at Century 21 New West Properties on Maple Ave in Catskill. Susan was a member of the New York State Board of Realtors. Susan and Jim sold their home in 2010 and traveled around the country in their motor home. They resided in Winter Haven, FL for the past two years.

Loving wife of James Taranto; mother of Jerald Crawford, Ponder, Texas, grandmother of Angela Crawford, Port St Lucie, Florida and Bella Crawford, Ponder, Texas sister in law of Tony and Kelly Taranto, Adams Center NY, Sandra Ciccimarro, Greenville, NY, Joseph & Maria Taranto, Athens, NY, Thomas & Sherrie Sweet, Bennington, VT, Peter & Patty Sweet, Bennington, VT and Wanda Sweet, Bennington, daughter In law of Estelle Taranto, Athens NY, aunt of Becky Raffiani, Greenville, NY, Todd Raffiani, Greenville, NY, Seth and Lyandra Sweet, Orlando, Florida, Anna Sweet, Ct. Many other nieces and nephews also survive.

FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be a gathering of family and friends on Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, NY. A memorial service will then be conducted at 2:00 by Rev. Joanna Tipple.
