Sylvia Reich Burrill 1924 - 2009 BENNINGTON Mrs. Sylvia Reich Burrill 85, a resident of County Street died peacefully at her home on Monday morning, Aug. 10, 2009, she was surrounded by her loving family. Assisting in her care and providing comfort to she and her family were VNA and Hospice and the staff at the VA clinic in Bennington. Mrs. Burrill was born in Liverpool, England on March 10, 1924, daughter of Robert B. and Mary Copeland Miller, she immigrated to the United States at the age of seven aboard the White Star Ship Line. She grew up in Bridgeport, Conn., graduating from Bassick High School, she continued her education at New Haven Teachers College. She served in the Army Air Force during World War II where she was a pilot with the Women Airforce Service Pilots, Mrs. Burrill was first married to Cedric Joslin, and was the only woman to have an all military wedding in the WASPS, Mr. Joslin was shot down during World War II. She later married Robert Reich on June 5, 1946, he passed on April 26, 1973, prior to moving to Vermont in 1967, she had served on the Board of Education in Trumbull, Conn. While living in West Dover she and her family operated The Wine and Cheese Pedlar Shop in Wilmington and had been a licensed real estate agent. She married Jerry Burrill in Cape Cod on Oct. 5, 1985, he passed on March 26,1991. She purchased the Governors Rock Motel in Shaftsbury in 1989, retiring from business in 2002. Mrs. Burrill was a member of The Shaftsbury Garden Club, past Adjudant of Pownal American Legion Post 90,Women and Military Aviation Assn., Gold Star Wives-99's and the WASPS. She will be remembered as a great gardener and cook who loved the company of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She leaves her son, Robert L. and wife, Sharon Reich of Trumbull, daughter Cecily and husband, Henry Strohmaier of Pownal, sisters Florence Brill of Huntington, Conn., and Barbara Wright of Bradenton, Fla., son in law Jim Wiesner of Wilmington, grandchildren, Matthew and Max Reich, Brooke Woods and husband Ralph, Kit Carson and wife Rebecca, and Emma Strohmaier, step grandchildren Joseph Strohmaier and wife Lisa and Ellen Strohmaier, great grandchildren Christopher Strohmaier, Nick and Hank Yarnal, Samantha Lampman, Stacey and Brian Woods, Ariana Sausville, Zebadiah LeRay, Carson and Carleigh Woods, Zachary Sausville, Haley, Tristan and Phoebe Carson, Lori Sprague, Brandon Jacobson, Christopher Bisson and Joseph Strohmaier II. great great granddaughter Lillian Strohmaier, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter Cynthia "Jes" Wiesner on April 7,2009, step grandson Henry Strohmaier II in September 1983 and brother Alan Miller. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services will be held on Sunday, Aug. 16 at 11 a.m. at the HANSON-WALBRIDGE FUNERAL HOME, friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial with full military honors will follow in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery.
