Obituary Condolences

MANCHESTER CENTER -- Thelma K. Mattison, 89, a lifelong resident of Manchester Center passed away on Oct. 23, 2006, at Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend.

She was born the daughter of the late William and Mary Margaret Kennedy, on Sept. 14, 1917, in Ludlow. On June 15, 1940, she married Leo J. Mattison, who predeceased her in 1982.

She is survived by her children, Patricia M. Kitchen and partner, Joanne Sydnor, of The Villages, Fla., Beverly M. Gallett of Manchester Center, Jesse L. Mattison and wife, Kathryn of Burlington, Eric Mattison, also of Manchester Center, and Tina K. Mattison and partner, Marianne Buswell, of Westminster; four grandchildren, Eric Gallett, Natasha Gallett, Stephen Mattison, and Gail Mattison; and five great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by one sister, Nellie K. Austin, of Springfield; one brother, John Kennedy of Rutland; and several nieces and nephews. Four sisters and four brothers predeceased Thelma.

Thelma was a lifelong communicant of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church and a charter member of the Court of St. Rita, Catholic Daughters of America.

Thelma was a loving and devoted mother. Her smile lit a room, her love warmed the hearts of all who knew her, her songs echoed far and wide, and her eternal optimism inspired us all. She retired after years of cooking, serving, and caretaking.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to invite a pet into your home (stray/adopted) as Thelma could never turn away an animal spirit and loved them dearly, or make a financial contribution in her name to either Grace Cottage Hospital or Manchester Health Services with deep gratitude for their impeccable care.

A memorial service to celebrate Thelma’s life and love of life is planned for a later date.
