Thelma H. Vandale 1919-2010 BENNINGTON Mrs. Thelma H. Vandale, 91, widow of Leo A. Vandale, a longtime resident of Safford Street, died Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Crescent Manor Care Centers following a long illness. Born in Shaftsbury October 24, 1919 she was the daughter of the late Benona and Sally (Brown) Harrington. She received her education in the Bennington and North Bennington schools and was a 1938 graduate of North Bennington High School. Thelma than received her degree in business from St. Joseph's Business College in Bennington in 1940. Mr. & Mrs. Vandale were married at St. Francis de Sales Church on April 30, 1942. Mr. Vandale predeceased her on January 6, 1991. In earlier years Mrs. Vandale was employed as a secretary at Bennington College. She was a member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church. She was also a member of the Alumni Association at Southern Vermont College. Her hobbies and interests included genealogy, playing cards, gardening and quilting. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Keith R. and Linda Vandale of Shaftsbury; three grandchildren, Michael Stone, Rebecca Stone and Katie Vandale; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Vandale was pre-deceased by a daughter and son-in-law, Lennora and John Stone and by a sister and three brothers, Ruth Montgomery, Jesse, Robert and Byron Harrington. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 10 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
