Theodore "Ted" F. Hajos, Jr. 1936 - 2009 BENNINGTON Mr. Theodore "Ted" F. Hajos, Jr. 73 passed away on April 24, 2009 in Bennington. He was born in the Bronx, N.Y., on April 10, 1936 son of Theodore F. Hajos, Sr. and Helen Begley Hajos. Ted graduated from Greenwich Central School in Greenwich, New York in 1954, served for four years in the Navy aboard the destroyer USS Power DD-839, the destroyer tender USS Cascade AD-16 and was honorably discharged in 1958 as Sonarman 1st Class Petty Officer. He graduated from Siena College, Loudenville, N.Y., in 1962 with a Bachelor's Degree in Physics. In that year he married his wife Lya, and was employed as an electrical field engineer for Westinghouse Electric Corporation at General Dynamics Electric Boat Corporation in Groton, Conn. In 1965 he joined the General Electric Company at the Heavy Military Electronics Department in Syracuse, N.Y., and in 1966 transferred to Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna, N.Y., holding positions of Irradiations Test Engineer, Project Engineer, Lead Electrical Engineer, Lead Electrical Design Engineer, and Manager of Electrical Engineering. While residing in Bacon Hill, N.Y., Ted was elected to and served as a Town Justice for the Town of Northumberland from 1974 to 1981. After retiring in 1993 with 27 years with General Electric Company, he and his wife, Lya, moved to Robbinston, Maine where he enjoyed lobster fishing, woodworking, repairing antique clocks and gardening. In 2003 he and his wife Lya moved to Derby, Vt., to be closer to their children and grandchildren and then in 2005 to Shaftsbury, Vt. Ted was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Past Grand Knight of Council # 673 in Eastport, Maine, a member of Council # 149 in Calais, Maine and Deputy Grand Knight # 9646 in Derby Line, VT. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Newport Assembly # 1157 in Newport, VT. Ted served as District Deputy for District # 16 of the Maine State Council Knights of Columbus from 1998 to 2001 and District # 9 of the Vermont State Council Knights of Columbus from 2006 to 2007. Ted was a communicant of Sacred Heart saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington, VT where he served as a lector, extraordinary minister, altar server and sacristan. He leave his loving wife, Lya of 46 years of Shaftsbury, two daughters, Theresa Marie of Las Vegas, Nev., Mary Ellen Ives and her husband, Kirk, of Latham, N. Y., two sons, Kevin and his wife Rachel, of Clifton Park, N.Y., and Patrick of Waterford, N.Y., four granddaughters, Allison E. LaChance, Theresa Yvonne Hajos, Madeline Katherine Ives, Grace Frances Ives and three grandsons, Benjamin Michael, Jacob Matthew Hajos and Bradley Sumner Ives, three sisters, Margaret Hajos, Ellen Stelmar and Anne Cadwallader. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister Mary Ellen, a daughter Laura A. Hajos LaChance and a son Hugh Michael. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington on Tuesday April 28, 2009 at 11 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered. The burial will take place in the family lot in the Visitation Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY At the request of Mr. Hajos there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to "HIS" Pantry or Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Parish through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
