Theodore M. Galipeau

1928-2014 BENNINGTON Theodore M. Galipeau, 86, a resident of Jefferson Ave. died Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bennington following a brief illness. He was born in Bennington, Vt. March 13, 1928. He was the son of the late Theodore M. and Veronica (Grennon) Galipeau. Ted received his education in Bennington. A World War II Army veteran, Ted served in the military police and was assigned to duty at the Nuremburg Trials in Germany at the close of the war. He married the former Virginia M. Thompson July 15, 1950 at Saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington. Mrs. Galipeau died February 23, 2003. In earlier years Mr. Galipeau owned and operated a Gulf station on South Street. From 1962 until he retired in 1975 Ted owned and operated Art Wards on Ben Mont Ave in Bennington. He enjoyed spending his summers at Lake Lauderdale. He was an avid Saint Louis Cardinal fan and had enjoyed going to spring training. He enjoyed watching March Madness and was a Duke "Blue Devil" fan. He also enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. Mr. Galipeau was very fond of his daughter-in-law, Jennifer, who was his caretaker and best friend. Survivors include his children, Theodore E. Galipeau of Bennington, Jeffrey Galipeau of Columbus, Ohio, Hope Gerity and her husband, Mark, of Bennington, Joseph Galipeau of Bennington and Michael Galipeau and his wife, Jennifer, of Bennington; 13 grandchildren and 13 great -grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a brother Bernard Galipeau. Friends may call at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Monday, May 12 from 11:30 until 12:30 p.m. The graveside service with military honors will follow at the family lot at Park Lawn Cemetery at 1p.m. If friends desire contributions in memory of Theodore M. Galipeau may be made to the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
